Joining Really Good Emails

For a long while now, I’ve been searching for a good side project — something engaging, fun, and that would help me grow professionally. I finally found it in Really Good Emails (RGE), and today I’m happy to share that I’ve joined the Core Team building RGE on Assembly.

So what’s Really Good Emails, and what’s Assembly? I’m glad you asked.

Started earlier this year by Matthew Smith, Really Good Emails is a really neat project with a big, hairy, audacious goal: help people improve their product emails by seeing what other teams are sending, and get the resources they need to improve their own product emails. It’s the sort of thing that’s so obvious and awesome that — when you see it — you feel like it’s always existed. But it hasn’t. We’re building it now, and it’s getting better all the time.

And as for Assembly, I don’t even know where to begin. It’s a global, online community where people can come together to build amazing products and companies — and I’m absolutely hooked. Anyone can jump in on a product and pick up a “bounty” (a job to be done), and you’re rewarded for your work with a percentage of ownership in the product. The more you contribute, the greater your reward as the product becomes profitable, and its focus on transparency, community, and shared ownership are refreshing in an internet culture flush with top-down startups.

The bottom line is this: I’m stoked to have the chance to be a part of something that’s (a) bigger than myself and (b) outside of my day-to-day job. It’s fun, refreshing, and challenging in the best way. And if you’d like to get involved, just say hello. We’re a friendly group, and there’s always room for one more.
